To have a growth mindset is to believe that intelligence can be developed. Research shows that students who have a growth mindset outperform others with a fixed mindset. In our Magnet, teachers promote a growth mindset on a daily basis. We believe that all students can learn, and we are also committed to help every student see that through effort and dedication anyone can become smarter. Effort, however, is not enough. Carol Dweck reminds us that students also “need to try new strategies and seek input from others when they’re stuck. They need this repertoire of approaches—not just sheer effort—to learn and improve.” Our teachers facilitate collaboration and a full repertoire of different strategies so that each of our students develops their intellect.
